AHHHHHHHH!!!
I have been so excited and waiting on pins and needles to see this years Shoot and Share Contest Results!
This was my third year entering the this contest, which is the largest photography competition out there!! For those of you that don’t know what the contest is, here’s a bit of an excerpt that I wrote about it:
The Shoot and Share Photo contest isn’t your typical photo contest. It’s a contest for Photographers by Photographers and is held in efforts to bring the entire worldwide photo community together. There were 25 different categories and each photographer was allowed to enter 50 photos. What makes this contest a little different than others is that it’s completely focused on the photos. When voting, you are presented with four random photos from one of the 25 categories and you chose your favorite out of the four. It’s completely anonymous, so you vote for the photo on merit rather than who took it. Keeping it anonymous also meant you couldn’t ask for votes on social media or anywhere else. No popularity contest here, it’s all about the talent.
The contest went live in February, and I am not going to sit and tell you all how many hours I spent voting! There was so much inspiration and talent out there, it was addicting!!
This year was their biggest year yet!
This year over 412,379 photos were submitted, and over 75 MILLION VOTES!!!!
So, to see how great my images did, especially this year, with that many people, is really unbelievable! And , I am so happy to say that I did WAY better than I did last year!!

And now, last but not least, I had TWO images place in the
TOP 100
of their category!!!!!
This image right here means so much to me, and the one that I am happiest about. I shared this image and story of me visiting the lantern festival last year, and here is the part that is so special:
When it became time to release the lanterns into the ocean, mine was lighted by someone and I waited in line for the right moment to release mine.
I’m not sure how long I stood there, but I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I looked up to see a man crying. And he asked me if I was ok.
It was then I realized there were tears streaming down my face.
I finally took a breath and released my lantern to the ocean. And all of a sudden, this incredibly light lantern felt heavy in my hand.
As I let the lantern dedicated to my dad go, I watched it and took some pictures. And, while I watched all the other lanterns float to the horizon, I watched my Dad’s literally make a U-turn and headed straight back to me.
I had to get in the water waist deep to push it back out, and I couldn’t help but smile. I couldn’t help but think of the card that sits on my desk, with his writing, written when I left for boot camp, about a year before his death, that said “You are not alone. Love Dad.”
And then, my beautiful friend Kyera!! My golden goddess, a simple shoot, and her radiant smile!! You can see more of this beautiful shoot here!
So very happy with the contest this year!!! As usual, thank you to all of my amazing clients!! These images could not have been done without you! I can’t wait till next years Shoot and Share contest!!!
