I get many people that ask me what is the difference between a lifestyle newborn session and a posed studio newborn session. This is my personal preference, and the type of sessions that I offer!

When I first started photography, when I photographed newborns in the “staged, posed, Pinterest-y like poses. (yes, I totally made up a word!!) And while they were cute, I was losing my passion for it. I found these sessions to be long, as you need your baby in a deep sleep, spending lots of time posing baby, some unnatural baby poses, ect.

As I still wanted to photograph newborns, I had to find a way to do so, while still being passionate about it! That’s when I decided to do newborn lifestyle sessions!

Lifestyle Sessions are available to tell your family’s story in an unrehearsed, every-day-living sort of fashion. I believe in the beautiful memories we make every day without the perfect outfit or prop to remember the fleeting time that we get with our kids. Spending the entire session on posed portraiture is a thing of the past with me. Open yourself up to this type of session with me and I know you’ll have irreplaceable images that truly represent your family, your children, and your life.

So, what does lifestyle newborn photography look like with me? I come to your home, photograph you and baby in YOUR element. We don’t get super posed, unnatural images (though I think they are JUST as beautiful). I capture the precious first moments with your little one: smiles, cries, little toes, nursing photos (if that is something you want), mommy/daddy kisses, and nursery details. I am there to photograph a moment in time that you will cherish so very much once you’ve moved on from that first home, that first nursery, and baby is a teenager and not so snuggly with mommy and daddy anymore.  🙂  I want to capture the chaotic, amazing, tiring, beautiful moments as you are experiencing them those first few weeks. That is what I do and why I love it so very much.

This doesn’t mean that we can’t get some “posed” shots, they just won’t be the primarily focus of the session!

Not sure if this is the same baby which was wrapped in the U.S. flag but you have my compliments on a beautiful picture – I don’t believe any disrespect for our flag was shown !

I love this … I agree with you on the unnatural posed pictures. Some are cute but some really bother me. They just aren’t natural and I don’t care what people say … those babies just don’t look comfortable. Why spend all that time wrapping them, posing them … when they are beautiful just being a baby. Some of the best portraits are candid shots that weren’t posed. I love your work!
